RAW (Remind AnyWay)

Submitted By:

Description:

RAW – What is it?
RAW is Remind AnyWay. Put simply, it is a universal reminder system with special emphasis on location.

What’s your motive behind RAW?
The motive is simple – we want you to concentrate on your tasks and leverage the reminding part on RAW. We found there are two triggering aspects of any event/task i.e. time, location. Up until now, the time part has been covered by many applications and the location part has been recently covered by only a few. Well, we want put a full stop on this reminding business. We are offering a universal reminding system. Let’s explain with some common scenarios:

  • Sally went to Box Hill Railway station to drop off a friend. After coming back to home, she just found out that she could have been gone to nearby Coles supermarket to buy some vegetables. Oh! damn! – what a silly mistake! Next time Sally just needs to use RAW to get reminded straightaway whenever she is in close proximity of Box Hill Railway Station.
  • Bill went to post office to post a letter and after coming back to home, he understood he just missed the bill – well, it’s not his twin brother Bill, it’s his electricity bill. Next time Bill can just use RAW to get reminded about his bill and can avoid the rebuke from brother Bill.
  • How many times Tom forgot to pick up his son Ron. Later Ron is picked up by Tom’s wife Tammy after getting a call from the school after an hour – not a comfortable situation at all. Only if Tammy could get a timely hint that Tom missed again – then she could drove to the school. It would save her from anxiety and Ron from his worst nightmare. So what if RAW reminds Tammy to pick up Ron, if Tom is no where around Ron’s school at the school closing time? Tammy/Tom/Ron would just love this.
Well, these are only few of the many scenarios where RAW can be of great use.

Okay enough scenarios, tell me your features
As you wish:

  • Location based reminder with time options. You will get reminded in the close proximity of your specified location for a particular task.
  • Easy task addition and deletion both from mobile and web (full web version coming soon)
  • Automatic task notification in mobile while in the close proximity based on GPS location.
  • During task addition, just input your custom location or choose a landmark from the Victorian Govt. data filtered by postcode/suburb.
  • You can also choose location by just clicking on a map and view lists of tasks both in map and table.
  • Options to choose the proximity parameter and save custom locations

So what are you offering for the Victorians?
RAW’s goal is to make the life of everyone easy. And for the Victorians we aim to make the life even easier. We are using publicly available data (http://www.premier.vic.gov.au/app-my-state/the-data.html) from Victorian Government and agencies. We gathered the Victorian Govt. location data regarding schools, parks, universities, railway stations, markets, hospitals and other landmarks. So adding a task at a known location just requires you to choose a landmark from around of the radius of your current location. No fuss to enter the exact address input or so. But if you want to save your home address and want to retrieve that later then that is also possible. Our future version will add the features of sharing location among other user’s and creating tasks at that location.

So, how can I use it?
Well using is easy, just sign up in our website – www.remindanyway.com. Download the Android application from the website in your Android enabled website. See the demo video in the website to get an overview and start using it. It’s completely free and at your service. Soon we will be providing all the task management facilities on the web too, so that you will get notification from your mobile, but can manage tasks and options on the web.

Is that all, or anything coming next?
Well not at all, this is just the beginning. If you don’t mind we just want to list some of our upcoming features:

  • Share your custom location with other users of RAW. Say if you made your home a custom location, your partner doesn’t need to define it again – s/he can just use yours.
  • Event proximity based reminder. This is the school pickup scenario we explained earlier. This has other use cases like security monitoring. For example, your grandpa wants to know whether you reached home safely after night shift. He can just set to get a reminder if you are not in a close proximity of your home at a certain time.
  • You can add other RAW users as friends (sounds like a bit of social networking). Later you can create friend proximity reminder. Shane wants to say something important to Sandy, but she is somewhat short of memory and forgot every time he met Sandy for the last few days. So how about getting a reminder of the topic when Sandy (A RAW friend of Shane) comes in close proximity of Shane?
  • Location calculation based on cell tower, WIFI data. It will enable RAW users more accurate location information and sometimes even without having a GPS enabled phone (or may be in indoor where GPS signal is weak).
  • Synchronization with external calendar application like Google calendar, so that you can export your Google calendar tasks/events to RAW.
  • Provide a location based directory service integrated with RAW.

So there’s a lot to come, only imagination is the limit. Be with us and check back our website www.remindanyway.com. Also send an email to info@remindanyway.com to let us know your comments/feedbacks/suggestions.

Is it possible that having to put an entry into your phone everytime you want milk from the store a little tedious? It seems as though this idea has come about from a really great brainstorming idea, but definately lacks the key concepts that would actually make the software useable in real life.

I'm glad you all support your friends, but realistically this application is sub-par and doesn't offer half of the value as the majority of other applications out there.

I don't believe this app would be worth taking a place in any category.

Thank you Mohammed for responding to my comment. I have used Google Calendar and the like, and again I feel as if it can be very time consuming. However you have explained how this may be time well spent. I look forward to hearing more about how you aim to keep your customers using your product. Keep up the good work.

Hi WizKid, thanks for your evaluation. Well if you are used to with scheduling or calender applications like Google Calender, you would know that there's a bit of time to enter the tasks/events into it. Its like, say if would like to drive a distance you need to have a car and maintain that, but at the end you are saving time. But if you want to walk you can get rid of the hassle of driving or maintaining the car, but all know how much time it would cost you.

Well, you are right that our video is made for everyone even someone with technological understanding of an ant, we don't want to make the video only for whizzes or geeks, they will eventually learn all the features by themselves. We targeted people who are frequently using this kind of app as well as people who are just considering about using this kind of app.

...
Md. Iftekher Islam , May 25, 2010
cool app!
...
WizKid , May 25, 2010
It seems like people will easily get over the excitement of this application and will no longer be bothered going through the process of entering reminders for all the different things they will do in a day.

I am assuming your target audience is that of very busy individuals, who I reckon will not want to waste their precious time fiddling around with a pointless application. I would like to see it more readily accessible, easier to use and less time consuming to enter an event.

Also your video looks like it was made by someone with a technological understanding of an ant.

@ robert.. it becomes cumbersome to update every single move. I want to see this application alive
...
robert , May 25, 2010
it is a little scary that this application is monitoring your every move and (automatically?) publishes your movements to your 'friends'...using this GPS technology. i would like to keep my whereabouts private. or do you have to physically update every single movement you make ...just like foursquare?
